Trap Tox

Neurotoxin for the Trapezius Muscle. Recontouring Your Neck and Shoulder Lines

About Trapezius Tox:

What it is:

Trapezius Tox is a specialized treatment that involves injecting neurotoxin into the trapezius muscle to relax the muscles, commonly called the traps. This large muscle group starts from the neck, expands to the top of each shoulder, and runs down the upper back in an inverted triangle. Overworked trapezius muscles can become tight and stiff so it can provide pain relief to those who experience muscle tightness, pain, or stress. It can also have a slimming effect on the neck by lowering the trapezius muscle, which can lead to a longer appearing neck.

How it works:

Neurotoxin or botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin that relaxes muscles. Botulinum toxin acts at neuromuscular junctions to relax the muscles. When used in the face, Tox relaxes the facial muscles to remove wrinkles. When injected into the masseter muscles, botox relaxes the jaw muscles to reduce teeth grinding and slim down the face shape. Similarly, when botulinum toxin is injected safely into the trapezius muscles, the muscles can be relaxed without affecting normal movement of the arm, shoulder joint, back and neck. As the overactivity of the trapezius muscle is curbed, the hypertrophic trapezius muscles lose their bulk and size. Over a few weeks, the bulky hypertrophic muscles slim down for a slimmer and more elegant neckline. The results of trapezius botox last for 4 - 6 months.

What to expect:

Botox is injected into the upper shoulder (trapezius muscle) directly. These injections are placed at the points of the nerve that supplies the trapezius muscle. 4 - 6 injection points are required on average. The entire treatment will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes. You can be in and out on your lunch break!

FAQs

  • Those who experience shoulder and neck pain, discomfort, along with various forms of tension headaches.

    Those with poor posture.

Those who desire to lengthen their neck and develop a perfectly straight shoulder profile.

  • It depends on several factors including: size and strength of your trapezius muscles.

A considerable amount of Botox is required to be injected, as the trapezius muscle is a much larger muscle than smaller muscles present on the face. Every patient is unique, and cost will vary based on the size of the dosage required.

We recommend a complimentary consultation with our nurse injector to create a plan that is right for you.

  • Not really - it feels like a pinch! The needle is small, thin, and it goes by quickly to decrease the possibility of pain. No numbing agents are needed.

  • There’s virtually zero downtime with these treatments. Neurotoxins are often referred to as a “lunchtime procedure,” since most clients return directly to work or normal activity immediately. Some redness and swelling may occur at the injection sites, but it usually subsides within a few hours. Very rarely, clients may experience minor bruising.

  • Results last around 4-6 months, depending on the location of the treatment, your muscle activity and your body’s individual response.

  • Neurotoxin injections are very common, low risk procedures. Localized pain, swelling and bruising at the injection site are the most common but still rare side effects. As with any treatment, there are always risks which your nurse injector will walk you through prior to treatment.

  • People who are pregnant or nursing are not eligible for neurotoxin treatment.
